FATEBIT
This is a Board Game I built in school. We were tasked to design and build a prototype but I just ran with it and tried to get as full to completion as I could before the term ended.
I started by creating a logo. Which isn't really the best way to do it but sometimes a logo, or a word can inspire an idea. And The best board games have interesting titles. It also helps to ask questions. Why is it called that? Then you can start developing and designing ideas or gameplay off of the reasoning of that title. It's a bit backwards but it worked for me.

Next I started writing the gameplay loop. I say loop, but I more mean turns. The challenge here was trying to figure out the best way to have enemies and other players attack. Then link the health and energy somehow.
After the turns were done I just moved on to art. I'm more of a wannabe artist than I am a gameplay designer. So I started fleshing out logo images and experimenting with all sorts of font types.
I next decided on the boards. They're not complete yet but I got as far as fleshing all of them out and then providing an example of a "finalized" wip.
Finally, we were tasked to make game pieces as part of the complete project. These could be anything from cards to pegs or simple pieces of paper with sketches on them; Prototype stuff. So I decided to sculpt them using polymer clay. Then I made a box out of plywood, carved some wear in it and added a gold looking logo with sculpy and gold leaf.
You can see some prototype stuff below!
